Geoawesome Digital Meetup: All you need to know

Re: What is Geoawesome Digital Meetup in a nutshell?

Geoawesome Digital Meetup (GDM) is all about bringing the spatial community together and enabling interactions within the community whether its for fun or profit. And along the way, we hope that the meetup will help us all better understand how location data and technology are transforming the world for better. Registration for the events is free and the event is always focused on a particular topic/use-case/vertical.

Re: Okay, how is GDM different from the other digital events in the space?

Good question! Of course, each digital event is unique in its own way. There are always particular quirks and traditions that make each event attractive to a particular set of members. Our events tend to focus on a couple of things, which we believe makes it unique

  1. Its all about engaging presentations and building a connection with the community
  2. There is always an customer/end-user in the speaker line-up: Understanding how location data and technology are transforming the world for the better always requires that you listen to the end-users keenly.

The understanding part of it is what makes GDM unique compared to other digital events hosted in the geospatial industry.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. How did you arrive at this list?

Our team reviewed over 800 companies and created a shortlist of 262 companies consisting of companies featured in the previous 3 editions (2019, 2021 and 2022), officially nominated companies and expert inputs. The expert committee then cast their votes on the shortlist of 262 companies helping decide the Global Top 100 Geospatial Companies list for 2023. The final list reflects the general consensus of the expert committee.

Q2. Is the list a ranking?

No. The companies are listed alphabetically and we consciously didn’t want to create any differences between any of the companies listed i.e. it’s the top 100 geospatial companies and not ranked in any way whatsoever.

Q3. Who was part of the expert committee?

The 2023 expert committee consisted of 16 members – Dr. Nadine Alameh, Justyna Redelkiewicz, Chiara Solimini, Carly Morris, Wilfred Waters, Olivia Powell, Sives Govender, Jonathan Neufeld, Osamu Ochiai, Ng Siau Yong, Denise McKenzie, Maggie Cawley, Holli Howard, Esther Ogbu, Aleksander Buczkowski and Muthukumar Kumar.

Q4. What information was available to the expert committee to make this call?

Geoawesomeness announced an open call for nominations for the 2023 list on October 4th, 2022 and companies were requested to voluntarily provide answers to 23 questions. The answers were then used as input by the expert committee to better understand the company, its vision and business operations. It goes without saying that each member of the expert committee have their own unique perspective, own expertise and knowledge of the industry.

Q5. What were the criteria?

No official criteria were provided to the expert committee to base their decisions. Each expert made a call based on their unique perspective. We fully stand by their decision and don’t feel it’s necessary to restrict them with quantitive or qualitative criterion that might restrict them in any way whatsoever.

Q6. My company deserves to be on the list! What I can do to convince you?

We understand the passion. Its tough for our team to leave out companies that we believe are doing amazing work but top 100 means that we only have 100 slots so its possible that we have left out many companies that are equally deserving. The best thing you can do right now is to ensure that you nominate your company to the 2024 list once nominations are announced. Nominations and the information companies share with us go a long way in helping our experts understand your company better than any website in the world.

Q7. I have feedback regarding the list, whom do I approach?

We are eager to hear your opinions and constructive criticism. You can email us at info@geoawesomeness.com. Aleks, Muthu or another member of the team will usually get back to you within 1-3 business days.
