Major milestone achieved towards building a green supply chain with the Supply Chain Data Partnership’s new global location register

Geography plays a vital role in both understanding and optimizing supply chains and working towards a more sustainable future. That’s why the Supply Chain Data Partnership was established – to develop and provide critical insights into global supply chains. Now, as COP28 is underwaywhere global sustainability and supply chains are top of the agendathe project has marked a major milestone in promoting green and sustainable investment.

Announced at COP27, the SCDP has now completed a proof of concept for the creation of a global location register. The new location insights platform will enable the monitoring and verification of environmentally and socially sustainable practices at every stage of the supply chain to protect both people and the planet.

Location insights, provided by the Ordnance Survey – are a key part of the register – allowing the verification of farms and sites. Over the past year, the project has focused on the supply chains of products such as soy and wood-based packaging applications.

As a founding member of the SCDP, the Ordnance Survey are now keen to hear from businesses with environmental and sustainability goals.

How can the location register best support your needs? What are your goals and what would you like to monitor and verify?

Research has shown that while many companies have long-term sustainability goals, not many of them have the means to measure their progress. This location register will bring transparency and spotlight where organizations are upholding environmental and social standards for their own and supplier’s operations.

“At OS we are committed to achieving a sustainable future. Demonstrating the value of this register and getting it to a proof of concept has been a major milestone. We can now demonstrate how location data and technology can help sustainability initiatives succeed by providing accuracy when it comes to monitoring, analysing, and modelling solutions – getting us one step closer to a sustainable and prosperous future. Linking with the connected supply chain and entity experts GS1 UK and GLIEF, now provides us with the global reach this initiative needs to grow at pace. We are now keen to hear from any businesses who are interested in how the register can support their environmental and sustainability goals.”. Donna Lyndsay, Strategic Market Lead at Ordnance Survey
