Google announced that its indoor Maps are now available in Germany, giving people there the ability to easily find their way around airports, shopping centres and even museums. The service works for some time already in US and UK and according to Google, the indoor Maps availability in Germany solidifies its plan to “focus on our users in Europe,” where the overall coverage “will be expanded and fast.”
The maps will include airports in Munich and Cologne, popular department stores such as the Alster in Hamburg, KaDeWe in Berlin or Pollinger in Munich, many Saturn electronics markets (Cologne, Hamburg, Berlin, Düsseldorf and Munich), various arcade shopping centres, German Museum in Munich and the Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund. Nintendo has announced a cool app for its latest Wii U console which will incorporate Google Maps in a pretty novel way. Using the motion-sensing touchscreen GamePad, you’ll be able to pan around Street View in real-time while your TV will display the overhead satellite image. Sounds really cool!
Well of course using this tool on the sofa is not very practical but the user experience must be amazing, totally different than mobile or computer. The app will be out in Japan as a free download between January and March. Not sure when it will be available in other countries. I’m not planning to buy myself Wii U, but if you do, please share your experiences.
